A Valentine’s Day Poem: Especially if you have lost someone you love

On this day of love and hugs and kisses
It is important to recall that there are those who have lost a love
One can lose a love to another
One can lose a love due to lack of respect and giving worth
And yet it is possible one may have lost a love to the ticking of the time
The time that is time to go and not be alive
The lose where one no longer sees or smells the loved one
Yes, it is true on this day 23 years ago I have lost a brother
A person who I shared thoughts with
A person who helped me set my new years resolutions
A person I used to go to, to make sense of what made no sense at all
The lose of an older brother who was a mentor and a guide
Each year on this day I celebrate his life more than I mourn his loss

*Painting done by dear friend Pamela Abdalla
My brother loved giving me baby roses…
As I was the youngest of the clan

How lovely to celebrate your brother’s life more than mourn his loss. I remember how devastated you were and how much he meant and means to you. How lovely to remember him on this special day of love. You are beautiful.

Indeed…. celebrating life is more beautiful… but that can be called mourning in its own way…. perhaps I celebrate in mourning a loss and I mourn in celebrating a life. They are intertwined. Yes, it is the first time I have written a poem on such a day. He is with me from time to time when I am aware.
