The Butterfly out of the Cocoon

Butterfly Ready for Flight
Out of Cocoon In Search of Flight

How does flight begin…..

Well that all depends if we are talking about the flight of soul or the flight of body or in this case flight of a butterfly.

I had gone to my friend’s home to go for a walk with her, she said we need to wait for the person that is coming to spray the garden, she was having problems with caterpillar eating her lemon tree. So I went outside, and looked a the caterpillar that filled the lemon tree, I thought they were so cute.

I returned inside, picked up a disposable cup from above the water dispenser and went out, put some leaves in it and 5 caterpillars.
The spray person came, we went on our walk and returned.

I picked up the cup I had put to the side of the house, and drove home. I placed the 5 caterpillars with the leaves inside a large glass round vase along with some branches and other leaves from the plants around the apartment.

After a while I checked on them and all the lemon leaves were gone, but the others were not touched. I figured out they only like lemon leaves. I went to a local garden shop and bought a small lemon tree. Now the caterpillar were happy, I placed leaves in the bowl and it would be gone in no time…. how do they eat so fast.

After a few days, they stopped eating and formed a cocoon around themselves and hung on a branch. This status continued for a couple of weeks at least, they looked dried up and dead, my husband actually asked me why i am hanging on to these dried up things. I just put them in the side room for a bit.

One day I went to the room to take something from the drawer, and there, there, there I saw a BUTTERFLY.
I could not believe my eyes. I wanted to put my shoes on to take the bowl down to the park to let the butterfly fly, but it was evident I did not have that time. I did not want the wings to get hurt, I looked up in the internet if they could fly from height of a building like ours, and yes!!! So I stepped on the balcony and reached in the bowl and there she trusted me and sat on my hand. I stood in wonder of this beauty and soon, she flew.

In the next couple of hours, each of the other ones came out of their cocoon and found flight….
I was witness to the coming out of the cocoon, finding the strength in their wings and then eventually trust and confidence in their strength and then flight.

I love this story, I love the story of glories of life… finding strength in ones own abilities, ones own being and also flight.
We are intertwined with the same beautiful web that connected the cocoon to the branch, the web connecting mother to child and you to I and I to the universe.

The beauty of Light and Flight.

By the way if you were wondering I took the lemon tree to my friend and she planted it in her garden.

And now I have a gift from a friend and travel companion Linda Hollier, who is a photographer and writes a beautiful and meaningful blog here2here . She has gifted me with the eternal butterfly companion at my window….. Linda creates her art work entirely on her iPhone…. and the magic is to be seen here…. and here….. on LindArt:

The transformation is a clear indication of the process we all take before we turn out to be the best version of ourselves.
    A little patience
    A little endurance
    Self believe

You are such a wonderful example of the patience of the butterfly! While everyone around you is dismissive and single minded- you simply make way for this tiny being to find the light it searches for. Small gestures of exquisite care and tending- bringing forth a life. A beautiful recounting. I appreciate your building of these webs of connection between artists, butterflies, friends…thank you!
