I can hardly believe it, it is almost a year ago that my dear friend Linda Hollier shared with me one of her pieces.
Well, let me go back a few years actually to the coincidental way we met. I was learning how to use Twitter, my dear friend, teacher and brother Farrukh Naeem and expert social media man in UAE was teaching me. We were on our way to a TEDx talk in Dubai. As I was learning how to tweet, I discovered someone retweeting me and I was amazed. Much to my amazement that day Linda and I became each others followers, but the beauty of this story is that this was the beginning of a friendship whose roots are based in ancient times. You see both Linda and I have a thing for seeing beyond. She sees beyond with her camera and the images she creates and I see beyond with the words I write on the page.
On this particular day, December 11 th 2014 at around 3:30 pm, I had gone to visit Linda. She had just hung some of her art work. I was drawn to sit in front of one that had three black figures. I later found out the name of the piece was “Trinity”. As I sat, I started to write. I did not know, but later found out that at that very moment that I was writing, Linda had taken a couple of pictures of me. The incredible thing is that once I had sat for a while, I got up and asked Linda if she wanted to hear what I wrote. She said yes, and both of us remained amazed at the synchronicity of the words and the images that had taken life before our eyes.
As I was sitting I wrote:
The Arrival of Space and Beauty and Light
And then there were none…
Yes of course I see the three ladies in this art
But somehow I’m more drawn to the space they invade
with their beings, their bodies, their black gowns
A deep breath in and…
They dissapear
I am simply in the beautiful space
All full of invitation
All full of Light
All full of empty
The steps leading to life
Ahead some no trees
A sort of ladder leading me from
Here to Now
Presently sitting
A slow breath in watching the shadow of my pen on paper
Somehow the people in the art do not leave a shadow behind
I look ahead and realize
This is life
Slow Beautiful Art
I am honored that Linda has asked me to read this poem at the opening of her first solo exhibition called “Unfolding”. It will take place in the Radisson Royal Hotel in Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The opening reception is on September 9th at 7 to 8:30 pm, and the exhibit will show through September 16. May this be a way of Linda’s art giving birth into the universe and bringing us closer to truth and wisdom through her vision. Visit Linda for more wisdom on her blogs at here2here and for more images at LindArt.
I have said this to Linda personally, but I want it to be part of this moment…. I am honored to be with you on this journey of life. You have been a guiding Light when I have been in the dark or in the shadows. I know we will continue on this journey together until we are closer to here2here and also closer to Here and Now.
Truly and always

Dear, Bahereh
. I have been amazed by how poetically you see the world. You make the world appear so beautiful. It kinda makes me think it’s us humans whove lost ourselves in the worldly things of greed. Reading your poems, all of it, I feel touched. I have met you in person, the girl who sat next to you at the meeting in Sheikh Khalifa Hospital.
I am as well surprised to know, you aren’t just a poet therapist but also an altruist. I do not know if you know what altruism is, as it’s discussed to be quite rare but I believe it probably means someone who brings happiness and light into someone else’s life, while taking time out of their own hectic, hard, yet beautiful life.
It seem’s to me you’ve come across so much that you’ve learnt to ignite the light in the dark. I can truly see the passion and love you hold for words, for a different form of art. I love that. Keep it up because you are the star lightening up the dark night.
Regard’s
Mubashra.
